CSI Paint History

In 1981, after a long and distinguished career in the paint industry, John Williams decided to open his own paint store. His goal was to provide a complete paint store that would be able service the professional like no other. Through a high level of personalized service that could not be achieved with the corporate cookie cutter approach, the sights were set. To begin this journey, Napa Valley Paint first opened at the corner of Sierra Avenue and Highway 29 in Napa. A few short years later, the success of the company forced a move to a larger building. In 1984, Mr. Williams purchased the building at 257 Walnut Street in Napa and moved the store to that location. In 1995, Mr. Williams decided to open a second store in San Francisco (J.S. Williams Paint) to pursue some opportunities in the city. After a 20 year success story, John decided it was time to retire and the Williams family decided to sell the paint stores.

In November of 2004 we learned that the company who had taken over operations of the stores would not be exercising their option to renew the lease in Napa. After much deliberation, Scott Williams decided to pursue the opportunity to lease the building in Napa and open a store that would again fill the niche that his father’s company had done so well with over the years. CSI Paint was born and opened the doors here in Napa in June of 2005. At that time, many of the same good people who had been with the Williams family over the years, decided to become a part of the CSI Paint team.

In the summer of 2006, Steve Arampatzis joined the “CSI Paint family” and hit the ground running. Steve was an integral part the Williams family opening J.S. Williams Paint in San Francisco in 1995. After Steve paved the way, we decided to commence a search for a building in San Francisco. In January 2007, our second store was opened at 2140 Cesar Chavez in San Francisco. After a great ten year run, our lease in San Francisco ended December 31, 2016. Due to many factors, including an enormous rent increase if we decided to stay, we chose not to renew our lease in the city. We feel the best way to keep up our standard of excellent customer service is to pull our operations under one roof in Napa while keeping the same great staff in place. We will continue to service our loyal customers through telephone and delivery service. Thank you to all of you who we have had an opportunity to serve in the city for the past 10 years!!!
